Hi, I’m Kim Judge, most referred to as “Ms. Kim” to all of my clients!
If I’m being perfectly honest, I never envisioned myself working with kids, until I had kids of my own!
I spent my first role as an SLP working with adults in both acute, sub-acute, and outpatient settings. I loved my job and always envisioned myself staying in this setting. In fact, I thought I had my career path all figured out!
It wasn’t until I became a mother to children with feeding difficulties that I realized my priorities had changed. After delivering premature twins, I knew I needed to find a career that allowed for the flexibility to do what I love, but also allowed me to prioritize being a Mom.
When my twins came home from the NICU, I learned firsthand the challenges that many of my clients experience daily. Though my twin’s feeding problems were on a much smaller scale in comparison to many of the kids I work with daily, I was given a new perspective. My first-hand struggles to feed my preemie babies and foster their development molded the path moving forward with Twin Talkers, S.C. established soon after that!
After becoming a Mom, I started in Early Intervention. This offered the flexibility I was looking for. As I started working with children, I found so much joy in what I was doing. Working with adults is a million times easier than working with kids, but I grew to love the challenge of “figuring” each individual kid out and I became fueled by this challenge.
Over the past 17 years running Twin Talkers, S.C., I have centered my clinical time servicing children between the ages of birth to age 7. I have worked collaboratively with multidisciplinary therapists to gain a deeper foundation of children’s special needs, and because of this, I wholeheartedly embrace and implement a multi-sensory approach to addressing communication challenges, feeding difficulties, and neuro-diverse learning styles.
I have learned that there is a strength to be found within every child at every stage of their leaning process. Although there is no “cookbook” approach to therapy, following a child’s lead using a multi-sensory approach to learning, will always help you understand why a child needs what he or she does! That and when in doubt, music, movement, and song is always the trick!
One of the biggest challenges we face as providers today is the significant lack of therapists who are trained and qualified to know how to support our clients. My role has continued to evolve as I guide, mentor, education, and supervise this amazing team. I’ve had the privilege of growing what was once a small dream to nurturing and fostering Twin Talkers, S.C. I feel like I’ve been able to have it all! A career with flexibility, a client base I enjoy, fulfillment when I go home, and the ability to still be there for my own family.
